Secrets Of Charisma
There is this young man I know, who comes from a middle class family. He is an ordinary looking young man, kind of tall and lanky, and the type who could easily blend into a crowd. The first time I met him up close, I noticed his eyes seemed to sparkle and sort of draw you in.
When this boy talks, other teenagers crowd around him as if drawn to him and listen to every word he says. People from all walks of life seem to feel at ease in his company. Since he has a very curious and inquisitive mind, older friends, relatives, and associates of his parents, enjoy conversing with him. People listen to this lanky teenager when he speaks his mind. His friends flock to him, and he is everybody's best friend.
Whenever I am around this young man, I know I am in the presence of a very powerful force. To me, he is living proof of a compelling personality, and is an actual personification of a charismatic person!
What is this young man's secret? Why do people find him so compelling?
This young charismatic teenager draws people near because he makes them feel good, even great, about themselves. He has the capacity to make you feel at ease and comfortable. But more than anything, he makes you experience complete acceptance.
I knew, and observed, this young person as he was growing up. Little by little, I was able to discover his secrets for having a charismatic personality. Take a look at his traits.
At an early age, he exhibited a genuine love for life. He accepts life as it is, an exciting journey, with every twist and turn as an opportunity to savor the adventure. It seems that he imagines himself like a virus that infects other people to have fun in this incredible journey called life.
This bona fide love for life is very much evident in his enthusiastic and vibrant personality. You could never describe him as reserved. His brisk way of walking, colorful expressions of speech, and lively hand gestures all convey excitement, and communicate one message... "I love life!"
This larger than life persona is combined with his genuine interest in people. He is always curious about other people's ideas, concerns, perceptions, feelings, and experiences.
Whenever he meets other people, he takes conscious effort to encourage them to talk about themselves and their passions in life. He always steers the conversation towards the person and never about himself. When it comes to his friends' dreams and aspirations, he has big ears.
This simple act of listening makes people feel at ease and accepted in his presence. In a conversation, he listens intently, nods, and looks at the person straight into his eyes. He validates the opinions and ideas of his friends. Emphatic listening makes him appealing to people.
In spite of all this admiration from people, this young man keeps his feet on the ground and exudes modesty. This trait endears the teenager to his friends and acquaintances. His humbleness makes him approachable, accessible, and likable. More importantly, it is a trait that earns him their respect.
Add up these three traits I've described and you've got charisma. You see this young man doesn't see charisma as exclusively about himself. No, quite the opposite, charisma is all about making people feel great and at ease about themselves!
